Osun State Government to Sue EFCC Over Reported Account Freezes Osogbo-The Osun State Government is to institute a legal challenge against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged unlawful restriction of certain bank accounts owned by the state government.
The governor had on several occasions accused the federal government, in particular the anti-graft commission, of deliberately obstructing the governance and smooth running of state operations through financial clamps imposed on the account.
The accounts being currently under the freeze, a reliable source revealed, affected several accounts through which the state pays salaries, runs agencies of government, and conducts public services’ deliveries, but could no longer operate, following the freezing.

The state government insisted it would fight the EFCC through legal means until a definitive legal determination on the propriety or otherwise of blocking its accounts by any federal executive agency outside constitutional parameters.
“The state government’s legal team has been directed to proceed on that immediately, to defend the constitutional rights and privileges of the state, which the EFCC as an agency of the Federal Government has sought to undermine.” sources within the governor’s circle added.

The EFCC, on the other hand, has kept numb so far on the specific allegations, although it was gathered that the commission, as part of its ongoing investigations into financial transactions that involved accounts allegedly belonging to Osun State, had imposed certain restrictions on few others not mentioned in government statements.
This development will clearly put to test the authority of the EFCC in terms of exercising such executive power as it has claimed against some State Government’s accounts during investigations into financial activities.
