The Nigerian Senate has saluted the security personnel who lost their lives during the operation that freed abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It described the sacrifices made by the officers as proof of the gallantry and resolve of Nigeria’s security forces.
The intelligence-led operation that saw the release of 44 abducted pupils and teachers who spent 56 days in the hands of terrorists without ransom involved officers and men of the Nigerian Army, National Counter Terrorism Centre, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Amotekun Corps, local hunters and vigilantes.

Lawmakers took out time to observe a minute silence in memory of the deceased security officers during the plenary session and noted that the rescue mission was not without some painful cost.

The Senate identified the officers who lost their lives during the operation as:
- Lieutenant F. A. Isaac – Nigerian Army
- Private Silas Musa – 81 Battalion, Nigerian Army
- Sergeant Abena John Jerome – Nigeria Police Force
They acknowledged the fact that the bravery and sacrifice of the deceased men and officers led to the success and pledged their unwavering support for all security agencies in their operations against terrorism and kidnapping.

The Senate equally noted Lance Corporal Adamu Hussain of the 81 Battalion of the Nigerian Army who sustained injury during the operation and survived following treatment.
The Senate President’s office in a release on Wednesday acknowledged: “The successful rescue followed a rigorous, intelligence-led operation, initiated following the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that all instruments of national power should be mobilised to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of the kidnapped individuals.”
This operation, it added, led to the arrest of several members of the terrorist network and the disruption of their operations.

Lawmakers have extended their sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives and implored the Federal Government to ensure continued welfare support for families of security personnel killed in service.
They have assured security agencies of continued support for enhanced funding, intelligence gathering, and operational capacities for the nation’s armed forces and other security outfits.
