Nigerian film industry is distraught over the death of the Nollywood actress Temitope “Tope” Osoba at the age of 40 after a protracted bout with breast cancer.
She died Wednesday, friends and colleagues said, sending her a number of tributes from the entertainment world.
Actor Alesh Ola Sanni, who posted a highly emotional tribute onto Instagram, shared news of her death and called Osoba a ‘dear sister’ with whom he shared many memorable moments.
The veteran actress also, Foluke Daramola-Salako, expressed her sorrow over the demise of the actress, saying, “I cannot believe that a woman called my friend passed away.

Osoba revealed her breast cancer status last year (2024) and requested financial aid to get more breast surgery done following her first operation. Her battle with cancer received much attention from the general public from her peers, with money being raised to help fund her treatment.
Though she had faced cancer, after a brief stint of recovery, the actress announced her comeback to Nollywood in 2025 stating that it had been a journey very life-changing and she wished to spread awareness about cancer and encouragement to others going through the same ordeal.

Osoba’s film career took off in the Yoruba film industry and she appeared in multiple films during her struggle during her disease earning recognition for her performances and resilience. Her death has called into focus re-thought on cancer awareness, early diagnosis and easy access to excellent health care for stars and other Nigerians.
