Veteran Nollywood actor Harry B Anyanwu has called on Nigerians and well meaning people to join hands and assist in saving the eyesight of Maureen Okpoko, a veteran actress who is suffering from eye problem.
In a recorded message, Anyanwu appealed for assistance on behalf of his wife. Okpoko is said to be in a critical state and we humbly call on the general public, fellow movie practitioners and corporate organizations to assist in any way possible with her treatment in order to save her sight and enhance her life.

Okpoko is a renowned actress in Nollywood, regularly appearing in a variety of films in both the English and Igbo languages. Several reports suggest that she has been battling health problems in recent years.
This has once again brought to the fore the plight of veteran Nollywood actors among whom she is one, many of whom are finding it difficult to get proper health care.
My appeal has attracted sympathy from industry stakeholders and fans, as many have called for increased support for aging artists that have put Nigeria’s creative industry on the map.

In recent years, there have been numerous fundraising efforts in Nollywood for aging actors. This points to an increasing awareness of the lack of healthcare, insurance and welfare aids available to practitioners.
