Abuja’s City Gate is a showcase – First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu has lauded the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike for the City Gate remodelling, commending it as an embodiment of environmental renewal and urban rejuvenation.
“I am happy to be here today to celebrate a feat of urban renewal that is turning a hitherto abandoned space into a veritable landmark and recreational area,” Mrs Tinubu remarked while commissioning refurbished Abuja’s City Gate, and gracing an event held by the FCT Administration to celebrate participants of the “Green Nigeria Challenge’s renewed hope.”

The remodelling of the FCT City Gate she said demonstrates “how even disused public space can be transformed into an accessible recreational centre and a place of environmental benefit, creating a safe haven for the public.
She expressed disapproval that no state took part in the competition’s community category, and said it’s “regrettable and indeed disappointing given the N50 million prize set aside for the award, and intended to drive youth led projects of urban reclamation of abandoned areas and unapproved waste dumpsites.”

She explained the vision behind the initiative was to leverage the energetic population of our young people to reshape abandoned public spaces into parks, gardens and other environmentally suitable places.
Mrs. Tinubu called on wives of the state governors to “spearhead environmental clubs in secondary and tertiary educational institutions and inspire our youth to take pride in conservation programmes, ensuring a healthier and more sustainable Nigeria for posterity.
For the FCT minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Honourable Wike; the project is inspired by the President’s Renewed Hope agenda and the advocacy of the First Lady for the renewal of the environment and the creation of additional gathering places for residents in the Federal Capital Territory.
