A group of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) hired by the National Assembly to defend its interests, including the Senate and the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in the legal spat involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, have allegedly not been paid their agreed fees.
The senior lawyers who represent the federal legislature in various court matters related to the case are said to have exhausted their retainers without seeing any portion of the agreed sums. The dispute stems from the ongoing court battles concerning the suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate and some associated legal arguments before various judicial bodies.

Sources within the political and judicial circles say that the disagreement over professional fees between National Assembly and the team of SANs has become a contentious issue.
So far, none of the parties have made any official statement about the dispute and no statement, press release or clarification was issued by any quarter in that regard.
The unpaid professional fees issue remains outside of the main courtroom battles concerning the suspension or even the petition by the Senator.
