President Donald Trump of the United States lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he termed, his “decisive leadership in Nigeria’s war on terrorism,” as Washington renews commitment to deepen security cooperation with Abuja.
Trump, in a letter dated, 6th July 2026, also addressed and published by the Presidency Thursday, thanked President Tinubu for his letter to the White House offering your government’s commitment and readiness to work toward the defeat of violent extremism in your country and defend against terrorist attacks that threaten the lives and security of the Nigerian people.

“I applaud your decisive leadership on behalf of the Nigerian people,” President Trump wrote. “It is a true honour to stand with you in the fight against terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous.”
The President described as strategically important the relationship between the two countries, stating, “We share with our Nigerian allies the objective of combating terrorists in order to improve regional security. The United States-Nigeria Defense Cooperation Roadmap signed in 2026 establishes a blueprint for how to expand on existing cooperation that benefits both countries’ national interests.”

President Trump recalled, “The United States Special Operations Command’s deployment to support Nigerian Security Forces with the unique skills in training, intelligence, and operational capacity enhances counter-terrorism and helps protect civilians.”

He said, “I anticipate that both governments will continue to reinforce bilateral ties to deepen cooperation in the security sector and areas of mutual interests during my administration.”
