The Nigerian Armed Forces members have also been granted a new salary structure with a proposed increment varying by 30% to 80% as part of efforts to alleviate troop welfare and enhance the nation’s security.
The information reveals that approximately 250,000 military service members will be eligible for the new package, to take effect on 1 September 2026.
As approved, Officers of the rank of Colonel (and above—Brigadier Generals, Major Generals, Lieutenant Generals and Generals) will be receiving 30% in their total salary.

Security personnel (from Colonel to Warrant Officer) will get a 50% hike while soldiers with ranks from Private to Staff Sergeant or higher will receive the maximum of 80% hike.
With the new package, the Federal Government will have to pay an extra ₦264 billion of wages to military personnel every year, compared with the current amount of ₦660 billion.

President Tinubu explained that the salary review acknowledged the sacrifices of the members of the Armed Forces in the fight to curb terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and other security challenges in the country.
Support and appreciation also should be given to the men and women who help to keep us safe in our homes in the service of our nation, the President said. He added that the important thing his administration will continue to keep on focus is the welfare of troops and they will further reform the Armed Forces in order to give them the new equipment, weapons and technological means.

Tinubu also reminded the operatives of the sophisticated services to build up the size of the war against terror in the country by mobilising all the military and law enforcement agencies to protect lives and property with all their assets and force them to accept the pay rise as the appreciation of the government for their service to the nation.
