Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has been candid about how her constant body shaming has left her feeling a lot of anguish, even though she’s dropped 87 Kgs in the last five years.

The actress admitted that her weight loss journey, spanning from 170kg to 83kg, has not spared her from being buffeted by those who garbage-tackled her before her weight loss.

The actress admitted that the fact that she went from 170kg to 83kg, didn’t protect her from being roundly criticized by the same hands that mocked her for her size before.

In a tearful social media call to action, Badmus wrote that it is one of her toughest successes. It took  years of discipline and sacrifice, failures and practice and a consistency to change, she said, as she transformed to meet society’s expectations instead of her health.

The actress spoke about her disappointment with many critics, when they should be celebrating the effort she put in to drop almost half of her body weight instead they are looking for any defects in her.

She wondered how there is still so much focus on her body when such an achievement has been made at a personal level.

I feel like there’s something great that I’ve accomplished at my age. The drastic 170kg to 83kg is not a minor feat” Badmus wrote, adding “If anyone sees something bad to say, let it go.”

One of the explanations given by Badmus for such condemnations is because a lot of the criticism is coming from the women themselves, but when the other woman appears to be transformed in the open, the call for support turns off. She urged women to work on empathy and not take to social media for ridiculing and comparing.

The actress admitted that she doesn’t often playfully ignore comments made online, saying that “the comments are hurtful, but one is human, has feelings, just like everyone else.” “My aim for weight loss is to become healthier and stronger and not because I had to fit in to public expectations,” she added.
