FG Boosts Farm Mechanisation Through Operator Training

Federal Government has commenced the training of 4,000 tractor operators to accelerate the mechanisation of agriculture, boost farm outputs and enhance Nigeria’s food security.

The program aims to empower farmers with the knowledge on how the use and maintain a tractor and the modern approaches of farming to operate the mechanized equipment efficiently along the value chain of the agricultural products in the country.

The government officials claimed the scheme is part of the general reforms in agriculture designed to generate more outputs, lessen dependence on hand work, and give young people in Nigeria 21 st century livelihood skills.

It is envisaged that the training will enable tractors and other mechanised inputs to be introduced, thus allowing farmers to extend cultivation, reduce production costs and improve modern agricultural production schemes throughout the country.

The programme supports the Federal Government’s efforts to modernize agriculture, encourage higher youth participation and expand food production in the context of its economic diversification programme.
