Governor of Kano, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who stated on Saturday that the government has had no cause for apology to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pointed out that the President’s re-election would be a politics of everyone holding political offices in the State.
Governor Yusuf made the statement in an interactive discussion with elected and appointed government leaders at Government House, Coronation Hall, Kano, asking the political appointees to beef up the campaign for their local communities before the next general election. The news for the governor was shared by his representative, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The governor expressed optimism that Kano would get one of the highest turnout of votes of President Tinubu in 2027, claiming the state – Federal Government tie-up should manifest in electoral turnout.
He also urged all political appointees who have still not enrolled with All Progressives Congress (APC) before joining to do so at once, affirming that no government official would be congenial unless he actively embraces the party for the betterment of its structures prior to the elections.

Governor Yusuf’s comments are politically symbolic, particularly as the political titans enter into an early conundrum over a rumoured fiercely contested election in 2027. Kano continues to be one of the fiercest battlegrounds in Nigeria such that it routinely commands one of the largest voter turnout in Presidential Elections. Hence, if there is any transition in the state, it is being keenly observed due to its influence on the National outcome.
The meeting also was an expression of the solidarity amongst the Kano APC members. The party has all the reasons to hawk President Samuel Olanu Adeg Caption Tinubu’s achievements as Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly Ismail Falgore said this was because the party’s constituency activities under both federal and state government had made it acceptable in Kano.
However, Umar Haruna Doguwa, the Chairman of the APC in the Kano State, said the battle line had been drawn, and predicting that the party would crush the Kwankwasiyya Movement that it said was funding and running the election bids of defeated candidates from the past three gubernatorial contests in the northern state, the party would win the 2027 elections because it had exhausted the opposition candidates’ resources.

The governor’s comments reflect of political discourses beginning to evolve from governance to electoral strategy, yet there are indications that Nigerians are still a year or two away from the elections.
Endorsements and defections, along with coalition manoeuvres are likely to increase in next few months as understandably parties fight to strengthen their backing in tight electorates like Kano, analysts say.

Elected and appointed government officials passed a vote of confidence on both the President and the Governor at the end of the meeting, promising to mobilise more for 2027 electoral across the state.
