The Nigerian Army in a combined operation with the Nigerian Police Force and local vigilantes have rescued three kidnapped victims, neutralized two suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of weapons following a security operation in Edo State.
The operation followed a report of the kidnapping of persons in the vicinity of Ambrose Alli University on the 13th of July, 2026. Following actionable intelligence, troops supported by officers of the NPF and the vigilantes traced the suspected kidnappers to their den in the Esan Local Government Area where a firefight ensued.

According to Army Spokesperson, Col Sani Usman Kuka-sheka, the joint security operatives exchanged gunfire with the kidnappers leading to the neutralization of two suspected terrorists, forcing the other members of the gang to flee, abandoning the three kidnapped persons.
The three kidnapped victims, who were unhurt have been safely secured and taken for medical examination and debriefing.

The security operatives recovered three (3) AK-47 rifles, thirty-nine (39) rounds of 7.62mm Special, three (3) mobile phones and two (2) power banks, which will aid the investigative team in tracing and bringing the fleeing suspected kidnappers to justice.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has commended the team for their professional conduct and assured the populace that the Nigerian Army will continue to collaborate with other security agencies and community stakeholders in ridding the nation of criminal elements in their various manifestations.

The Army appeals to members of the public to report any suspicious activity or criminals in their communities. “Intelligence is the cornerstone of successful security operations and every information counts,” Gen Yahaya stated.
