The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has closed 10 hotels and restaurants and other business buildings in Lagos state due to continuous noise pollution and violation of environmental codes, following an enforcement initiative by the government on noise pollution.
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has closed 10 hotels and restaurants and other business buildings across the state for noise pollution and multiple environmental offences as the government strong-armed its way to environmental compliance.

The operation came following a recommendation from the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab; to the offenders, who were repeatedly found to have breached the environmental standards after being warned many times by the ministry and was issued with several abatement notices.
The businesses that were hit include Golden Click Hotel, Baruwa; 14:02 Lounge & Bar, Ipaja; Max Lounge, Surulere; Kilo Hotel, The Hotel Macs; Hotel Bel Am; Fecomillion Hotel; Serena Hotel and Suites, and CitiLounge and Gariot. Some facilities were being sanctioned only because they were too loud, while some were also found to be in violation of air pollution and other environmental rules and regulations, authorities said.
According to LASEPA, the operation is one of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to protect the health of its citizens through reduction of pollution in the environment and the quality of life among the public.
The agency emphasized that businesses located in neighbourhoods need to meet environmental codes.

According to our General Manager of the agency, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, environmental compliance is a collective responsibility already stressing business owners to comply to the state’s dictates.
He stated that facilities which are still operating that have been identified as being in contravention of environmental legislation will remain closed by the agency, especially if there is a issue with noise pollution or air quality.
Repeated violations will not be countenanced, said Ajayi, explaining that the penalties imposed on violators are meant not only to chastise the wrong-doers, but to also foster good behavioural practices at hospitality, entertainment and commercial locations spread around Lagos.

The latest action comes after a series of crackdowns by LASEPA in recent weeks, which resulted in the closing of a number of clubs, hotels, churches, lounges and other premises for failing to comply with their environment directives set by the agency.
