Popular content creator, actress and media personality Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori aka Kiekie has revealed her reasons for not working with certain people in Nigeria’s entertainment industry on purpose, saying she follows her thumb instead of feelings of dislike or disrespect.

She told a recent podcast interview that she would not co-produce work by skit makers that she deemed as vulgar or that was so sexually oriented. She told the Mail her ties with such people would clash with values that she has worked so hard for the years to nurture and publicise.

The actress emphasized that she wasn’t talking about any particular person but said that she had seen some of their creators’ content in which they heavily focus on displaying their bodies and explicit jokes.

She said she sees no conflict with others’ creativity in how they express themselves but added that it’s not in the direction of her brand.

Kiekie also denied that turning down proposals to work with some of the creatives reflects lack of respect for them. She credited her colleagues’ effort and creativity on her decisions and said it’s solely a professional one that’s affected by the expectations of the corporate brands and audiences she represents.

She said that if partnerships didn’t align with her brand’s character, it could have an impact on the trust commercial partners have in her art.

The media personality added that each content creator is unique with an interest and path and nowhere collaborating is right to fit in just because they have the same industry. Collaborations need to be built on shared values and “brand-fit,” she said, particularly in today’s competitive digital entertainment market where reputation is a key factor in securing endorsements and ongoing business success.
