Legendary New Zealand actor Sam Neill is confirmed dead at the age of 78, his family writing, “Sam Neill Jr. has beautifully carried on our family legacy to entertain millions of fans around the world at the helm of the world renown ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise.
Known for his exceptional long and notable acting career which spanned over fifty years, during which he became one of the most highly regarded and prolific performers in world cinema, Neill’s death came to a close.

Known for his towering screen presence and shyness, he had made a hundred or more famous films and TV series across Australia, NZ, Britain and Hollywood.
Neill was born in 1947 in Omagh, Northern Ireland and came to New Zealand as a boy before he studied at the University of Canterbury, which fostered his passion for acting. He made his mark in the late ’70s in Australian and New Zealand film and went on to be internationally known.

In 1993 this endearing figure was cast by director Steven Spielberg as a paleontologist named Dr. Alan Grant in the movie ‘Jurassic Park’, and thus his career stepped into even greater stratosphere.
The impact of the blockbuster made it one of the most influential movies of all time, which Neill then reprised in later movies like “Jurassic Park III” and “Jurassic World Dominion.
Outside of the dinosaur franchise, Neill had a theatrical resume; he memorable portrayed the character in “The Piano,” “Dead Calm,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “Event Horizon,” “Bicentennial Man” and then was cast in “Peaky Blinders” for television. He was a perennial player in film genres from drama to thriller, to science fiction and to historical films, and his versatility got him great critical praise.
Actors, directors and fans threw out a deluge of flowers celebrating Neill’s “huge contribution to the film industry, in general, and his generosity towards younger film stars, in particular.” His keen wit, the modest attitude and storytelling passion were also considered highlight of his performances by many.

His family called on the world’s fans to express their gratitude for his love and support, saying that he was an “exceptional father, grandfather and friend” whose legacy would continue through his films and inspirational performances.
