Troops of Sector 7, Operation ENDURING PEACE, in a coordinated, intelligence-led operation in Kaduna State, have busted another illicit arms trafficking syndicate and recovered a large cache of firearms, dealt a significant blow to networks of arms dealers responsible for trafficking illicit weapons into Nigeria.
The operation was conducted following intelligence regarding the movement of a shipment of illegal arms from Jos in Plateau State into Niger State. In response to this credible intelligence, soldiers set up an elaborate stop-and-search operation very early Monday, July 13, 2026, at the Samaru Checkpoint in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state.

While conducting the search operations, the troops intercepted a suspicious ash-colored Mercedes Benz which was subsequently searched.
Inside the vehicle, three locally made AK-47 rifles and four Sub-Machine Guns (SMG) were carefully concealed.
Military officials stated that during the course of the operation, a suspected arms trafficker, who tried to escape, was shot while trying to evade arrest and is currently undergoing medical treatment at the Sector 7 Medical Centre, Kafanchan.

Initial investigations reveal that the arms recovered were acquired from two known arms dealers in Jos and were being transported to an unsuspecting recipient in Niger State. Other suspected members of the syndicate are being pursued by security operatives as ongoing investigations continue.

This successful operation underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army in its continuous fight to deny criminals access to illegal arms, which fuel terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other acts of violence across the country.
Experts believe that disrupting illegal arms trade is fundamental in crippling organised crime. Security forces affirmed that they will remain steadfast in their resolve to work alongside other security agencies and communities to eradicate arms trafficking and safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.
