Gazans Say Trump’s Peace Claim Contradicts Reality

Palestinians in Gaza dismiss Trump’s breakthrough claims Residents on the block told Reuters that President Trump’s claimed diplomatic deal to bring an end to the war and begin to disarm Gaza militants did not reflect the current reality on the ground with Israeli airstrikes continuing to kill civilians.

“There is nothing in what he said that is going on down here,” said one resident after strikes killed at least 18 in what hospital officials described as among the most intensive Israeli strikes in recent weeks across Gaza City, Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis.

Hamas spokesman Izzat Risheq issued a statement Sunday declaring, “Any discussions on disarmament must happen in tandem with a withdrawal of Israel troops and a definitive cessation of our fire.”

For residents of the densely populated enclave, however, talk of a peace arrangement appears to be lost in the current humanitarian crisis that remains the harsh reality.
