The Canadian Government has finalized the expanded list of 27 African countries where eligible citizens can enjoy eased entry under the country’s updated 2026 visitor travel process to boost mobility for eligible visitors while upholding existing immigration and security rules.

This update, part of Canada’s efforts to update its visitor processing system, offers expanded eligibility for streamlined travel document for specific travelers who have demonstrated a track record of compliance with Canadian or United States immigration laws.

According to government officials, the aim of the policy change is to shorten processing times for eligible candidates and boost legitimate travel for business, tourism, and visits to family.

The countries listed under the reported update are:

  • Algeria
  • Angola
  • Benin
  • Botswana
  • Burkina Faso
  • Cameroon
  • Côte d’Ivoire
  • Egypt
  • Ethiopia
  • Ghana
  • Kenya
  • Lesotho
  • Liberia
  • Malawi
  • Mauritius
  • Morocco
  • Namibia
  • Nigeria
  • Rwanda
  • Senegal
  • Seychelles
  • South Africa
  • Tanzania
  • Tunisia
  • Uganda
  • Zambia
  • Zimbabwe

Canadian authorities made it clear that the change is not an abolition of visas to any of the affected African nations, but rather eligible visitors can be given simpler procedures to apply for documents when such procedures are appropriate and where conditions are met, such as previous Canadian visa, and a valid US nonimmigrant visa.

All visitors who seek entry into Canada are still subject to existing admission rules as they will undergo identity, security, and other checks before being permitted travel into the North American country.

Immigration officials pointed out that the intent of the update to streamline and enhance legitimate travel without compromise to immigration integrity.

Border agents maintain authority to allow or refuse admission of any traveler upon arrival regardless of obtaining the requisite entry authorization.

Travel and migration experts applaud the ease of access that it will bring and how it may potentially foster greater engagement in trade and tourism between the African continent and Canada, along with improved cultural exchanges, business partnerships, and family reunification possibilities between the two regions.

Travel specialists caution, however, those planning to travel should thoroughly study all the criteria for eligibility before making arrangements.

It is important to be reminded by Canadian officials that this revised policy does not provide a route to becoming employed or gaining permanent residency.

Those hoping to obtain study or work permits, or to settle in Canada will need to submit separate applications through the established channels.
