
The President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sent a letter congratulating former governor of Lagos State and immediate past Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) on his 63rd birthday, calling him an outstanding man of service who made a lot of good impression in governance, infrastructure, and public administration in Nigeria.
On June 28, 2026, President Tinubu commended Fashola for his outstanding achievements in public service and highlighted that his contributions had made a lasting impact on the growth and development of Lagos state.
He expressed his appreciation for the former governor’s commitment, discipline and dedication to excellence over the years.
Fashola, the President, described him as an experienced administrator and renowned lawyer, who serves the public well and are an inspiration to many people in the country. Tinubu, however, said that Fashola’s solid service to the people’s dreams of progressive governance, integrity in governance and commitment to national development has never been in doubt.

Tinubu recalled the accomplishments of Fashola’s administration in Lagos State from 2007 to 2015, which includes significant investments in infrastructure, transportation, security, education, healthcare, environmental management and the restructuring of the public sector, turning Lagos to a more modern and competitive city.
Tinubu also gave credit to Fashola for his tenure as the Minister of Works and Housing from 2015 to 2023 during which he managed some of the major federal road and housing projects and also helped to make Nigeria more connected and have vast infrastructure development.
The President stated that the policies adopted by Fashola “sacredly and persistently” achieved excellence in the Nigerian Port Commission which has now become a benchmark of innovation and sustainable urban development with policies that continue to shape governance processes beyond the Lagos State boundaries.

We will also accord his sterling service in the Federal Cabinet from 2015 to 2023 while handling critical ministries of Works, Power and Housing, Tinubu said.
He called for God’s grace to continually touch the life of the former Governor stating his belief that Fashola as he does in the days gone by will continually continue to make a positive contribution to the growth, unity and development of Nigeria in the future.
