The 20-year-old controlled the pace brilliantly throughout his disciplined race to secure Nigeria’s first Commonwealth Games gold medal in a men’s 400m and edged the previous Commonwealth Games best performance by a Nigerian male athlete (Sunday Bada, bronze in 1994) In the women’s 400m final, Nigerian Ella Onojuvwevwo added a bronze medal to the team’s tally after an excellent run in a high-quality final with a bunch of very competitive sprinters at the same 400m Scotstoun Stadium, a performance which reinforced a wonderful campaign for the Team Nigeria athletics delegation in Glasgow, Scotland.

The gold medal means Ogazi now owns a slice of Commonwealth Games history, giving Nigeria a first 400m gold medal at the sport’s second-largest international multi-sport event,taking the East African nation to another height within the ranking of nations in Africa.
