Reports indicate that troops deployed at the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Kuje are worried about the unprecedented deployment of security operatives after the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, an activist and politician, partly threatening to disrupt the process at the custodial centre.
Sahara Reporters reported that these security officers deployed were more than the usual ones deployed around the correctional facility, after the return court in Abuja remanded Sowore in custody. Some officers have indicated they felt that it was unnecessary and that it hindered the orderly operations of the prison.

Sowore had yesterday been revoked from bail given to him by the Federal High Court, Abuja, in an open hearing of an ongoing case against him, and since then has no place to hide. His lawyers have appealed against the ruling, and the court has delayed giving a ruling on his bail appeal.
Supporters closely followed the case, which has been high profile and in the public gaze. Details of the concerns that prison staff may have expressed and why the police forces should deploy such a higher level of security against them remains shrouded in mystery.

Security at Kuje Correctional Centre is previously in the public interest after it draws national attention during an attack on the facility in 2022 which revealed significant security lapses.
