Russia’s biggest drone and missile attack on Kyiv in months claims over a dozen lives, injured dozens, and caused devastation. Russia’s attack came at night using a slew of cruise, ballistic missiles, and attack drones, hitting multiple parts of Ukraine’s capital, damaging homes, commercial businesses and infrastructure.
Rescue workers pulled residents out from underneath rubble of destroyed apartment buildings while others searched through debris for more victims.

Ukraine’s emergency service personnel announced that at least 13 deaths had occurred, and many residents sustained injuries varying from minor abrasions to severe trauma.
Authorities anticipate the death toll to increase, as search and rescue work continues, especially around the collapsing buildings. For hours the city experienced an air raid warning as Ukrainian defenders battled the missiles with defensive systems; many were believed to have been destroyed prior to reaching their targets.
However, the enormous size of Russia’s assault managed to get some missiles and drones through the country’s air defense shield. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russia’s assault, stating that it was another unprovoked attack on ordinary citizens, their homes and public spaces.
Zelenskyy pleaded for international allies to provide additional, more sophisticated missile systems in order to improve air defense and better protect civilians, businesses and infrastructure.

Fighting along the eastern and southern Ukrainian fronts have escalated in recent weeks with both warring nations conducting offensive operations. Kyiv believes this newest bombing is aimed at destroying civilian morale, in addition to damaging communication networks, transport systems, and energy infrastructure. Ukrainian local authorities are imploring residents to be careful, listen to the air raid sirens and to seek immediate shelter during air raid warnings.
Additional bombardments and strikes can occur at any time. Thousands of Ukrainian lives have been lost as millions have fled the country and left numerous public infrastructure sites in disarray since Moscow’s large-scale invasion in Feb 2022.
