President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Kwara state to further boost security and to counter the growing menace of banditry, kidnappings and other crimes currently facing the state. The military unit would be domiciled at Omu Aran, the council headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area.
The deployment is designed to enhance the readiness of troops and improve deployment and responses to imminent security threats across the state and the immediate environs.

State governor Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed the development and hailed it as another affirmation by the federal government to tackle security challenges in Kwara.
The governor expressed gratitude to Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu for facilitating the approval and was confident that troops would bring more succour to the areas concerned to secure the lives of the citizens.

The establishment of the military base comes amidst concerns in the affected areas of the state as criminal activities continue to cause pains, with officials hoping for immediate impact in stemming the Tide of violence.
