More than 100 leaders of pan-Yoruba and self-determination organisations have called for an end to internal disputes and attacks among Yoruba groups, warning that divisions could undermine efforts to tackle insecurity and promote development across Yorubaland.

The groups made the call in a communiqué issued after a meeting in Lagos on August 11, 2026. They also demanded the speedy implementation of state police as part of measures to address rising insecurity in the region.

Representatives included the Oodua Youth Movement, Agbekoya, Oodua Peoples Congress, Ilana Omo Oodua, Afenifere Youth Movement, Yoruba Self Determination Movement and other pan-Yoruba organisations.

The groups urged an immediate halt to attacks between Yoruba organisations, particularly those carried out through social media, and proposed the establishment of a Working Group on Peace Building and Conflict Prevention in Western Nigeria to mediate disputes and promote cooperation.

They also called for stronger regional integration involving the South-West, Kogi, Kwara, Edo and Itsekiri communities, including proposed water and rail links between Lagos and Warri.

On security, the groups condemned kidnapping and other criminal activities and advocated greater cooperation between communities and government authorities. They also urged traditional rulers to prioritise unity, cultural preservation and the socioeconomic welfare of their communities.
