The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Samuel Akoade, over the alleged killing of his 60-year-old mother, Olufunke Amoo, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the woman’s residence in the Powerline area along the Ore–Okitipupa Road. Police said the victim was found in a pool of blood after sustaining deep machete wounds.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. Following sustained efforts, he was subsequently arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

A machete believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene. Police officers also secured and documented the location as part of the preliminary investigation.
The deceased’s remains have been deposited at a mortuary, while the suspect remains in police custody. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for further investigation.

Police said the motive for the alleged killing has not yet been established.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix N. Ohagwu, directed investigators to conduct a thorough and professional investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The command also urged residents to provide timely information on suspicious activities as investigations continue.
