People Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Nyesom Wike, says opposition political party has not got the required unity and organisation to contest against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2027 presidential elections.
Wike, who was wrapped up in an internal party crisis, blamed the PDP’s struggles in the party on internal feuds, leadership succession issues and divisions over the years which he said has weakened the party’s electoral strength.

He said the chances of the PDP in the next presidential election are still gloomy should it fail to undertake fundamental changes and reconstruct its structures internally.
Stressing the need for discipline, unity and effective grassroots mobilization for political parties to win in the electoral process, the former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Alhaji Naziru Nnamdi Buhari, said this at the opening of the meeting.
The PDP is still one of Nigeria’s political parties, but he said that the party’s problems of internal instability have dampened its claim to a provocative opposition challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election.

The comments from Wike coincide with the PDP’s efforts to redefine itself from its years of disagreements that erupted into electoral challenges over party leadership.
The party has been holding talks to improve its machinery and build the groundwork for the upcoming general elections, but a few times it has been unable to resolve issues with key stakeholders.
Representing God, the minister also reiterated his stance of issue-based politics, emphasizing the need for “the party to gain public trust on the basis of their organization and not by pointing fingers at political opponents.
He appealed to the political leadership of all parties to pay attention to enhancing democratic institutions and party internal democracy.

Nigeria’s upcoming general elections scheduled for 2027 are also slated to be one of the nation’s most closely monitored elections, as key political parties have set themselves up for the battle.
