WHO Warns Of Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak as deaths reach 454 WHO has raised alarm over spreading outbreak of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease in Central Africa. As deaths from Bundibugyo Ebola outbreaks continue to rise and reaching 454 deaths, the World Health Organisation warns that increasing cross-border transmissions may lead to further widespread of disease in region.
According to the world health organisation, outbreaks had gone far beyond original area as cases were already identified close to international border posts.

Health officials had also noted that patients movements across neighbouring regions had compromised ability to monitor disease and ensure the sick remained quarantined in the regions affected by Bundibugyo.
WHO has stated that health workers in areas affected are intensifying contact tracing, case-finding as well as border surveillance in the regions to avoid further cross border spread. It has been however added that delay in seeking of help as well as population’s movements had undermined all effort of stopping Bundibugyo outbreaks.
“Countries must step up disease surveillance, improve laboratory testing and support infection prevention measures,” said Dr. Fikile Nkosi from the world health organisation.

The agency also requested those in the communities affected to be vigilant of the Bundibugyo symptoms and report all suspects to the nearest health facilities and adhere to health advice in all areas.
The health agency has continued to collaborate with the local health workers, as well as various other international partners to procure more supplies and emergency funding to ensure the outbreak is contained as fast as possible and the entire region kept safe from the Bundibugyo outbreaks.
Bundibugyo Ebola is one type of Ebola virus that results to severe hemorrhagic fever that may manifest in symptoms of extreme nausea, fever, diarrhoea, and internally bleeding. In most cases, Bundibugyo may be quickly controlled if cases are promptly detected and isolated.
