The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, urging candidates, parents and the public to disregard unverified claims questioning their accuracy.
WAEC said the results were produced through rigorous, transparent and quality-assured processes, in line with its established examination procedures and relevant education policies.
The examination body was responding to growing commentary, particularly on social media, challenging the credibility of the recently released results. WAEC said while anxiety over examination outcomes was understandable, the public should rely on verified information rather than claims circulating online.

The 2026 WASSCE results showed that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent of the 1,950,726 candidates who sat the examination, obtained the minimum requirements for university admission.
WAEC’s defence comes amid renewed public scrutiny of examination standards and student performance. The council maintained that its marking, moderation and auditing processes are designed to ensure accuracy and protect the integrity of the examination system.
The council urged candidates and parents to verify information through its official communication channels and cautioned against relying on misleading social-media reports.
