President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the challenges confronting Nigeria, saying he has accepted responsibility for addressing problems inherited from previous administrations.
Tinubu made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), led by its National President, Salimon Akanni Oladiti, at the State House.

The President said his administration would focus on practical, evidence-based solutions rather than dwelling on the failures of previous governments.
“I have accepted the assets and liabilities of my predecessor,” Tinubu said, stressing that regardless of how long existing problems had persisted, fixing them was now his responsibility as President.
A major focus of his remarks was Nigeria’s troubled refinery sector. Tinubu said the government would deploy detailed research, technical assessments, restructuring and improved management to address the challenges facing the country’s refineries.

The President’s comments come as his administration continues efforts to revive domestic refining capacity and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
Tinubu also assured NUPENG that the government would pursue measures aimed at making the petroleum sector more efficient and productive, while improving its contribution to the wider economy.

His declaration marks a shift from assigning responsibility for longstanding problems to accepting ownership of the task of fixing them.
