Zacch Adedeji, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has bared his mighty force against осizens who went against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, urging them to show what they would do, if they were in his shoes.
According to Adedeji, Nigerians must be cognisant of the magnitude of some of the challenges facing the economy as well as steps taken by the government to cope with the situation.
The tax chief also opined that some Nigerians are yet to fully understand the nature and scope of the initiatives under the Tinubu administration.

His remarks come as the public continues to have a debate about how the government’s economic policies are working, especially changes in the tax system, rate of government revenue, government foreign exchange and fuel price.
The Tinubu administration has said the changes are being made to prop up public finances, to attract investors, and to enhance revenue mobilisation and put the Nigerian economy on a more sustainable footing.
But critics have persisted in pointing to the negative effects these policies are having on household income, food production prices and transportation expenses, among many other factors.

Thus, the additional thrust by Adedeji in the debate has heightened the controversy that has been raging on whether the government’s reform programme is working its magic, or if it is bringing to Nigerians the short-term economic discomfort it has prescribed for the nation’s effective longer-term goals.
