Pelumi Olajengbesi, an Accord Party candidate for the House of Representatives in Osun State, has demanded ₦10 billion in damages from Senator Francis Fadahunsi over alleged defamatory statements linking him to cult groups and political thuggery.
Olajengbesi’s lawyers at Law Corridor issued the demand in a letter dated August 12, 2026, addressed to Fadahunsi at the National Assembly in Abuja. The lawyers gave the senator 24 hours to retract the statements and issue an unreserved public apology or face legal action.
According to the letter, Fadahunsi allegedly made the remarks during a Viable TV interview on July 2 and repeated or escalated the allegations during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on August 11.

Olajengbesi’s legal team said the senator questioned their client’s identity and alleged that he was connected to or sponsored members of the Eiye and Aye cult groups for political purposes. The lawyers described the allegations as false, defamatory and damaging to Olajengbesi’s reputation as a lawyer, politician and political campaign spokesperson.
The lawyers specifically objected to remarks attributed to Fadahunsi concerning the late Ajayi Aderogba, popularly known as Rogba, in which the senator allegedly linked him to the Eiye group and claimed that Olajengbesi sponsored him to terrorise people in the area.
Olajengbesi has denied sponsoring, financing, supporting or providing resources to any cult group or its members, according to the demand letter. His lawyers also denied that he had authorised anyone to intimidate, attack or terrorise members of the public on his behalf.
The legal team argued that the allegations went beyond legitimate political criticism because they allegedly attributed criminal conduct to their client and could expose him to public hatred, ridicule, professional embarrassment and criminal suspicion.

24-Hour Ultimatum
Olajengbesi’s lawyers demanded that Fadahunsi immediately stop making or circulating allegations linking their client to the Eiye, Aye or any other cult organisation.
They also demanded a public retraction and unreserved apology through the same media platforms where the alleged statements were made, as well as a written undertaking that the allegations would not be repeated.
Failure to comply within 24 hours, the lawyers warned, would lead to legal proceedings without further notice.
Among the reliefs Olajengbesi intends to seek in court are declarations that the statements were false and defamatory, an injunction preventing their further publication, an order compelling a retraction and apology, and ₦10 billion in general and aggravated damages, in addition to legal costs and other reliefs the court may grant.

Dispute Comes Amid Rising Osun Tensions
The legal confrontation comes against the backdrop of heightened political tensions ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District and is a member of the All Progressives Congress, has separately faced controversy over remarks contained in a viral video from an APC gathering in Ilesa. Reports said he was heard making comments interpreted as calling for violence against Accord Party members.
Fadahunsi subsequently disputed that interpretation, arguing that the video was edited and that he was referring to possible retaliation if APC members continued to be attacked. He said his remarks were intended in the context of defending party supporters rather than encouraging unlawful violence.

The controversy has prompted police action. The Osun State Police Command described the viral video as a matter of “serious concern” and invited Fadahunsi to clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks.
Olajengbesi’s ₦10 billion demand therefore adds a new legal dimension to an already tense political contest, with the dispute now potentially moving from campaign rhetoric into the courts.
